Scoring Essay and Short Answer Questions

CourseWave automatically scores multiple choice and multiple selection questions. Essay and short answer questions will be left ungraded and marked with a yellow caution symbol until you go into the individual test and assign points. Let’s walk you through this process.

First, go to www.coursewave.com and log in to your account. Your resources will display on the screen. Click on the one that corresponds to the test you wish to grade.

Now your screen display will show all the tests available in this resource. To view the completed tests, click the word “Submissions” at the top of your screen. This will pull up all the submissions for this resource. New submissions will be in bold face. Under the Test Name column, click on the test you would like to score.

You should now see a list of submissions for that particular test and which ones have ungraded questions. To view an individual submission, click “view” on the line corresponding to that submission.

On the left hand side of your screen, you will see the question list. If you do not see this, click the words “question list” at the top of the screen to display the list. Correct answers will display a green check mark. Incorrect answers will display a red X. Any ungraded or incomplete questions, including essay and short answer questions, will be marked with a yellow caution symbol.

Click on one of the questions marked with the caution symbol to navigate to that question directly. Underneath the student’s text input field, you will see a drop down field that allows you to award points for this question. Once you have scored the question, CourseWave will mark the question with a black thumbs up.
