How to Take an Assessment

Accessing Assessments in CourseWave

When your teacher assigns you a new CourseWave resource, you will either receive an access code directly from your instructor, or you’ll receive an email notification of the assignment.

If your teacher gives you a code, go to www.coursewave.com and enter the code in the field on the left hand side of the screen. The resource that corresponds to that code will appear on your screen.

If you receive an email notification, click on the “Get Started” button at the bottom of the email. From here, you can create your account using your email address or sign in using a Google or Microsoft account.

Please note that CourseWave works best on a laptop or desktop computer. Some features may not work on mobile devices. For more information, see the article Tips for Accessing CourseWave from Mobile Devices.

All tests within the resource will be visible. Be sure to follow your teacher’s instructions very carefully and only take the assessment which has been assigned. If you don’t know which assessment you should be taking, ask your teacher.

Taking the Assessment

Click on the test you wish to take, and the first page of the assessment will appear. On the upper left hand corner of the screen, you will see a button that reads “Question List.” If you click that button, the list will appear on the left hand side of the screen. Questions you have not yet answered will be marked by a yellow caution symbol. Once you answer a question, that symbol will change to a gray check mark.

The assessments will be made up of multiple choice, multiple selection, short answer, and essay questions.

As you work through the questions, you can use the question list to return to an earlier question. Once you have answered all the questions in the test, you will be given an opportunity to review your answers before submitting them.

If You Cannot Finish an Assessment

If you leave the test without answering all of the questions and submitting the answers, a yellow caution symbol will appear next to that test in the list, along with the number of questions that are unanswered. You may re-enter the test to complete these questions, but you may only submit your answers once.

Only teachers can view scores in CourseWave. If you have questions about your score, please contact your teacher.
